All things 70s have been making a comeback, from bell-bottoms to Dua Lipa’s disco pop revival album Future Nostalgia. Given the transformative times we’re currently living in, the revival of the 70s comes as no shock. The 70s were a time of revolution, cultural change, innovation, liberation, and fearless individualism, and it is this rebellious and carefree attitude that Canadian songstress Michelle Treacy gives us in her new EP High Heels in the Moshpit.

Treacy has described High Heels in the Moshpit as being Tame Impala meets Austin Powers. Inspired by freedom, the EP is groovy, left-center-pop that evokes the carefree spirit of the ‘Me Decade’, making you want to throw your hands up in the air, shake off the angst, just dance, and have a good time. With tracks like “It Feels So Good To Be Back” and “Love Every Minute”, Treacy inspires us to bear our true colours brightly, loudly, and proudly.

First launching into the music scene with her impromptu duet with Lady Gaga at a concert, followed by her win on the second season of CTV’s The Launch, Treacy has continued to kick down doors and make a name for herself in the Canadian music industry - and she’s doing it all in platform shoes. Just by scrolling through her Instagram page, you’ll see Treacy is exploding with flower power. Her flamboyant outfits, trippy cover art, and psychedelic merch, including kazoos and sticker packs, are right on brand. Inviting her fans into her creative journey through BTS videos and Zoom dance parties, Treacy radiates that fun-loving, cool girl energy we all wish we could so effortlessly achieve.

High Heels in the Moshpit was recorded in Treacy’s closet in her home in Toronto, and you can feel the free-spirited vibes come through in the EP’s spunky lyrics and indie pop sound, which combines punk and new-wave melodies. Recording in her bedroom allowed Treacy to create with no judgement, agenda, or expectations. The result? An EP that feels truly authentic and indicative of who Michelle Treacy is: bold, unapologetic, that lady in the mosh pit.
