Andrea Josic

A spoken word piece accompanied with performance art about taking an Uber home in the early hours of the morning after completing a night of sex work. It encapsulates the conflict of feeling unsafe around men who are strangers yet being confined to the space shared with them.

Andrea Josic (she/her; they/them) is a queer Bosnian-Canadian poet, performer and comedian based in Toronto. AJ was the champion of the 2020 Toronto Poetry Slam and the 2019 Feminine Empowerment Movement Slam. They are an award-winning journalist and multidisciplinary artist. As a textbook Aries, she hopes to cultivate healing and community joy in her work. Find them on Twitter and Instagram @localdollarama.

Bloom Festival is free for all to view! We wanted to make the arts accessible to the public and keep the audiences as wide as possible for these local artists. You can support the artists by purchasing a Pay-What-You-Can ticket or buying tickets for the live Q&A panels.

Shared Diary | Live Music & Dance | Eva Connelly-Miller & Julien Bradley-Combs

Thursday, June 10, 2021 @ 7 PM

Join us for a live performance of music and dance over Zoom, from artists Eva Connelly-Miller and Julien Bradley-Combs.

How to watch the replay of the live performance:

  1. Copy the access passcode: EvaJulien10!

  3. Paste the password… and enjoy!

This piece, as the title suggests, is a Shared Diary. The audience is an integral part of the performance, offering up a word, a phrase, an emotion, and having that offering interpreted and reflected back at them through dance and music. How can we make something that we feel in isolation become interwoven and shared into the lives beyond ours? How can we lean into art and into others to help shed some of the weight we carry? Or perhaps let others take part in some of the lightness and joy in our lives? We welcome you to come take part in this shared experience. (Audience participation will be completely optional).

Eva Connelly-Miller (she/her) is a contemporary dance artist born and living in Tkaronto. She believes in the power of art to help create compassionate beings, and approaches her work with curiosity, wonder, and is often driven either by collaboration or the world around her. She is one of the founding members of ZESTcreative.

Julien Bradley-Combs (he/him) has a deep love for everything music and has been fortunate enough to be able to perform professionally throughout the city. He has a special interest in improvisation and working collaboratively. He received his MA in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto in 2020.

Over a year ago, our world shut down at the hands of a global pandemic. Followed by major fights for social justice and equality, political scandals, and devastating environmental disasters, 2020 continued to take us on a wild ride. Still, many artists in Toronto continued to create, planting seeds fuelled by these defining moments in history. At Bloom Fest, we’re paying tribute to the creations that have sprouted from these seeds.

Launching June 1, Bloom Fest will be a free, virtual month-long festival, featuring works from Toronto artists of all mediums and backgrounds. Guests are encouraged to support artists with a Pay-What-You-Can entry donation. Join us for a month-long exhibition jam-packed with galleries, live performances, and amazing talent. The festival will be capped off with a week-long series of ticketed Q&A panel discussions with the artists via Zoom.

We hope that Bloom Fest will be a place for the local arts community to come together to connect, reflect, and honour the power of the arts, because where art blooms, so does hope. Make sure to register and save the date. We’ll see you there!
