Basement City Talks About Their New EP
Meet Basement City! Basement City is a Toronto-based rock band, formed in 2016 by twins Myles (bass guitar) and Isaiah Thomas (lead vocals & guitar), and Chaz Eberth (drums/percussion). Later, another friend was added, Austin Luft (lead guitar), and the rest is history. These guys throw great live concerts and are known for their high-energy musical interludes on stage. Their style is a mix of "classic rock and r&b with hints of jazz, soul and blues.
Is there anyone who has influenced you as artists?
As a band we have been inspired and influenced by wide variety of musicians and bands, some of which include:
Chaz - Dave Mathews Band, Travis Barker, John Bonham
Myles - Paul McCartney, Rush
Isaiah - Led Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye, Erykah Badu
Austin - Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Stevie Ray Vaughan
How does playing live compare to recording in-studio? Do you prefer one to the other?
We love creating music and being in the studio, but the energy and response we get from our fans when we play on stage can't be beat.
Your EP Basement City Vol. 1 comes out May 18, 2018. Tell us about it.
We had the pleasure of recording Basement City Vol. 1 at Escarpment Sound in Belwood, Ontario, where we recorded live off the floor to bring our live sound to record. Basement City Vol. 1 is our debut EP, giving our fans their first taste of our original material. The first single off the EP is "Yellowish Orange", a chill rock tune that is perfect for summer playlists. "Smokers Smile" is our second single off the EP, showcasing the softer side of Basement City. Basement City Vol. 1 also features an extended version of our 2017 single "Past Love".
You can look out for Basement City at Duffy's Tavern on Friday May 18th, as well as Supermarket on May 23rd, and Markham Ribfest fest July 8th at 12:00 pm.
