Blue: An Art Pop-Up at The Commons Theatre
It’s the middle of the week. The middle of October. And for a lot of people it’s also the middle of “stress-season” (whether thats academically, socially, or otherwise). In order to escape your mid-week slump, we have the perfect night out for you.
Thursday (October 24th) night, for one night only, Blue: An Art Pop-Up hits Downtown Toronto for an evening full of fun and community. I got the chance to speak to the producers of Blue, Jill Goranson, Alexa MacDougall and Michael Derworiz, to hear more about this project. Blue: An Art Pop Up is an evening featuring new works created by and featuring up and coming Toronto based artists. On October 23rd, at The Commons Theatre and Studio, attendees are free to move from space to space; viewing art through many mediums such as theatre performance, visual art, music and design. About the event itself, the producers are excited to create new opportunities for other artists: “By providing these artists the space and the audience they need to share their work, we are helping foster a community of creators that are able to practice and hone their crafts.”
To the creators of Blue, it was important to acknowledge Toronto’s vast and ever changing arts scene: “We really wanted to create a space that encourages a community of artists. Where artists of all different mediums could come together and create new relationships. Photographers working with actors, painters working with musicians - we hope that the connections that are made through this event can continue developing throughout the coming months” the Producers explain. To Jill, Alexa and Michael, what makes the creative landscape of this city unique is: “The people. People from various walks of life that find each other and share something of themselves. This city has so much to offer but it can be harsh and scary. The creative landscape reminds us all that we are in this together, we have a voice and we can use it to support and inspire others.”
