Alex Frew Examines Human Connection in Second Single “Antisocial Love Song”
While 2020 has been a year in which many have struggled to process complex emotions in quarantine, it has also been a time of awakening. Alex Frew’s newest single “Antisocial Love Song” encapsulates desire for human connection during COVID-19 while struggling with the world that’s just outside the door. Alex Frew explains the message behind the track, “This single is really about wanting to be alone with another person and kind of being afraid of other people and the world around you.” These feelings are all too familiar as the looming pandemic continues to cast a shadow over Toronto.
“I think we all have times or moments in our lives where being antisocial is the most attractive course of action and I wanted to write a song that encapsulates those emotions,” says Alex Frew. On getting through COVID-19 as a young singer-songwriter, he explains, “I’ve tried my best to have some sort of creative routine or a project that I work on every day. Whether it’s learning an instrument or teaching yourself music theory, it can really increase that creative drive and keep the ball rolling.”
On the surface, “Antisocial Love Song” is a chilled-out pop track. Underneath it all, it is “introspective” and “melancholic,” speaking to our shared loneliness and desperation to connect.
Alex Frew’s new tracks “Antisocial Love Song” and “Get Out Alive” will be performed live at a socially distanced, COVID-19 safe event, at Urban Outfitters (481 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON) Saturday, September 19th at 1pm and 3pm.
